Tips for growing out your bangs

I'm quite tired of my bangs, people! I tried the side swept, towards the front, and even the really short choppy bangs, but we failed. We broke up, got back together, and then I finally called it quits! Enough is enough and I'm just far too lazy anymore to deal with them. So, I settled for the middle part and am starting the growth process. I haven't been without bangs for 10+ years- and I have a large forehead so what's a girl to do?! Here are some tips on what to do with your hair while you try and grow those puppies out!

HEADBAND
Use a headband to keep back those small flyaways and tweaks that parting your bangs may cause

MIDDLE PART
part bangs down the middle for a brisky wavy look- use a blowdryer on low so bangs don't tweak

 SIDE BRAID
twist or braid back bangs to give a bohemian vibe

 SIDE SWEEP
dry bangs to the side of your face to give your face a nice shape.. oh and to also hide zits when they occur!

What are some tips you have for growing out bangs? I'd love to hear you share them with me!

Homemade Larabars

For those of you who know, I've been on this whole healthy food kick and it's been quite difficult when it comes to the sweets. I natually have a large, VERY large sweet tooth so anything candy-like is appealing to me and very hard to look past. I most recently say a post on Dani Hampton's blog SometimesSweet where she made this not only delicious, but EASY Apricot Coconut Almond Bars. After reading her post, I thought to myself this is something I could totally whip up in the kitchen. And then the idea dawned upon me, what about those expensive vegan Larabars that I love? And this is what I came across:

PB&J

•1/4 cup cranberries

•1/4 cup Seedless/Pitted whole Dates

•1/2 cup raw peanuts

•1 tbsp creamy natural peanut butter

•Pinch of sea salt

-Place the dates and cherries in a food processor. Blend until it becomes like a paste. Transfer blended dates and cherries to a bowl.

-Add the nuts to the processor and pulse until chopped fairly small (but not too much, not nut flour. You want texture). Add the nuts, along with the sea salt, to the bowl with the fruit paste. Use your fingers to knead the nuts into the paste. Next you can spread the mixture out onto a plate covered in cling wrap. Using your hands mold the mixture into individual bars. Wrap each separately in plastic wrap or in small ziplocks. It is a good idea to refrigerate the bars after making to maintain freshness and let the form set (try to let them set in the fridge for 20 minutes before you eat one).

Cookie Dough

•1/2 cup Salted Cashews

•1/3 cup Seedless/Pitted whole Dates

•1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract

•1/2 tsp Sea Salt

•1 tbsp Organic Chocolate Chips

*Follow Same Instructions as above

Key Lime Pie

•1/2 cup cashews

•1/2 cup Seedless/Pitted whole Dates

•dash of sea salt

•Zest of 1 lime

•1/2 tbsp lime juice

•1/3 shredded coconut

for the love of ombre`

Guys! I just love ombre (and I wanted you to know). It's not only the newest fad, but it's everywhere around us. You won't just find it on the tops of Hollywood star heads, it's now being seen anywhere from clothing, make-up, purses to house decor. And I just love it!

For those of you who want to give ombre` a whirl, hop on over to Michael Ann Made for a fabulous tutorial on how to dip-dye a t-shirt!  I know this will be a summer project I am just "DYE-ING" to try. (ha. ha.)

Little Bits of Happiness

Hello friends! Thanks for coming back around to see what I have to share with you today. I was going through my google reader this afternoon over lunch (as I do every day!) and I came across a post from Brooke over at Bright Wishes. I first of all, really enjoy reading her blog, but I more importantly was struck by the post she wrote today, about becoming more positive! Positivity is something I always strive to be better at, but reading her post kind of gave me a little bit of a bigger push. I usually have my daily rituals when I wake up, go to the gym, and even read some positive quotes to feel much better. But I feel like I've been hitting a wall, and it has become repetitive for me. So, when Brooke shared the weekly Little Bits of Happiness from Mrs. Stephanie T's blog I thought it was a great project for myself to join in on! You all should check it out, and play along, because it will be neat to look over what each of us lovely gals find inspiring each week! Join me tomorrow for my FIRST Little Bits of Happiness post!

Homemade Body Scrubs

While this winter hasn't lasted too long here in Boise, the cold weather HAS been very tough on my skin. It's been rough, dry and itchy and I've really been in dire need of a touch up! (my skin has lost its glow!) I contemplated buying expensive designer scrubs, or heading to the spa for a day, but I'm trying to be smart with my funds! So, I figured heck, I could make my own body scrubs! Here are a few recipes I came across. Have fun, and let your skin revive itself!

ZESTY LEMON SALT SCRUB
What you will need:
5 tablespoons sea salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 lemon
First mix the olive oil and sea salt together. Once the salt gets coated by the oil, the lemon won’t dissolve it! Next cut the lemon in half and squeeze over the salt + oil. Mix and mash. (Feel free to adjust the recipe to your liking.) Then scrub away!

SWEET ORANGE SALT SCRUB
What you will need:
5 tablespoons sea salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tsp coconut oil
1 sweet orange
First mix the olive oil and sea salt together. Next cut the orange in half and squeeze over the salt + oil. Mix and mash. Lastly, add the coconut oil into the mixture to give it an extra scent! Then scrub-a-dub-dub!

BROWN SUGAR SCRUB
What you will need:
2 Cups of brown sugar
1 Cup of almond oil
First add the 2 cups of brown sugar into a large bowl. Then add in the almond oil. (I kept adding equal ratios of oil and water, until the oil was completely absorbed) Lastly, mix and mash!

Sugar scrubs are great for a sweet scent, while salt scrubs are more for a zesty smell! Either are favorites of mine, and are not only a great gift to give, but a nice gesture to leave along side any sink in your house!

ENJOY!
